Youth-led change for inclusion and sustainability

Why Focus on Youth?

India has the world’s largest youth population—over 400 million young people with diverse dreams and aspirations. Yet, systemic challenges, economic barriers, and lack of support hinder their potential. To build an inclusive and just future, we must recognize youth not just as the "future" but as people with needs, and capacities to become changemakers today

Youth Challenges Today

Limited Economic Opportunities

Despite growing access to education, youth unemployment is 23%, and millions are pushed into low-paying, unskilled jobs with little room for growth.

Mental Health Crisis

Rising stress, joblessness, and societal pressures have created a silent epidemic—every hour, a student dies by suicide, highlighting the urgent need for mental health support and safe spaces.

Social & Political Exclusion

Youth are often seen as economic resources rather than leaders and decision-makers. Women and marginalized youth face even greater exclusion, inequality, and underrepresentation.

Cultural & Environmental Pressures

Rapid urbanization, migration, caste-based violence, and climate challenges further complicate young people’s journey into adulthood.

A Call to Action

Empowering India’s youth requires more than just policies—it demands holistic action: fair employment opportunities, inclusive education, mental health support, and meaningful participation in decision-making.

India stands at a crossroads. Will we nurture the voices of 400 million young people, or let their potential go unheard? Investing in youth today is not just a responsibility—it’s the foundation for a more just and sustainable future.

Our Core Themes

For over 30 years, Samvada has been steadfast in its mission to empower youth to envision and build a better world—one that is gender-just, socially inclusive, and environmentally sustainable. By fostering awareness and encouraging critical questioning, we aim to equip young people with the tools to challenge inequalities and reimagine societal norms.

We believe in creating a society where all genders enjoy equal opportunities, rights, and respect. By challenging stereotypes, addressing gender-based violence, and promoting equitable practices, we empower youth to lead the change toward gender justice.

Samvada integrates the principles of environmental sustainability into all our initiatives. We encourage youth to adopt sustainable practices and advocate for policies that protect natural resources and promote ethical living.

At Samvada, we view young people not just as beneficiaries but as rights-bearing citizens who play a pivotal role in democracy. We advocate for youth rights, amplify their voices, and encourage active participation in democratic processes to shape a just society.

Recognizing the critical transitions youth face, we focus on equipping them with life skills that enhance emotional resilience, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Through our programs we provide training in sustainable, ethical livelihoods, helping youth build careers that align with their values and aspirations.

- Saleem Yadagiri distr

In the Mental Health Professionals training, I learned about personal and societal challenges, as well as the true meaning of development. This experience gave me insights into societal perspectives and how to break free from them. Now, I work with an organization, supporting those in need, while applying Samvada’s inner perspective to my socially impactful work.

- Binitha, Kalburgi YRC

Through my journey with Samvada, I learned that it's our duty as citizens to speak up when constitutional values are threatened. Now, I move forward with confidence, knowing that our voices matter and that change is possible.

- Manasa, Chitradurga YRC

Before joining Samvada, I stayed silent about injustices, thinking they didn’t affect me. Thanks to the leadership training at YRC, I now speak up and advocate for change. We even secured better bus services for our hostel. I'm grateful to Samvada and its mentors for giving me courage and awareness.
