Dr. Savitha S Babu
Co-Executive Director

Savitha is a Faculty member at Samvada’s Baduku Centre for Livelihoods Learning. Just before joining Samvada, she was finishing her PhD from NIAS, Bangalore. Titled, ‘The Social Worlds of Higher Education: Welfare Hostels as Pedagogic Sites’, the thesis is situated in the sociology of education. It looks at how young women from marginal social locations navigate state welfare in Karnataka. Prior to this she has also worked as a lecturer at St. Joseph’s Evening College and was part of the Teacher Education and Undergraduate Education Planning team at Azim Premji University. Passionate about mentoring young people in writing, Savitha believes that academic writing must be democratised. She is committed to constantly learn to be an anti-caste feminist and build solidarity with movements for social justice. When not at work, you will often find her reading fiction, finding a thrill in words and playing with her nephews!
